High Lowman
Ladies and gentleman...welcome to High Rollers skating rink, where it's always Saturday night and always a cosmic roller disco adventure! I'll be your host for the evening, or at least until I pass out from taking hits from my nitrous tank. Meanwhile, lace up those skates, get out on the floors, and lose yourself in our magic lights. Also, don't forget to visit the snack bar. And now, take it away, Mr. Leon Lowman...

Away
Vacation time! I'm headed to the Pac Northwest for some good relaxing and recharging. Think redwoods and pools, hopefully on the same day. This tune seems more appropriate for blasting off into an inter-dimensional head journey, building to a nice intensity. Which is just what I'm looking to disconnect from for a week or so. Yet again, The Growing Bin serves up a winner. Peace out and see you back around Tuesday 7/10.

The one from the sun
One of my favorite things about Sun Ra is that the sci-fi presentation rarely tampered with the genuine jazz/r&b/whatever that the Arkestra was into at the time. The music always was made of good solid terrestrial elements. This one sounds like a groovy '50s party at the house of a man who on special occasions puts on the Christmas lights and sequins and jumps up on the table to describe his interstellar travels. Which is really something any good host should do.Sun Ra - The Sun Man Speaks

Mercury rising
Here's a fun one, courtesy of an obscure Spanish psych outfit who made a concept album about the planets. I don't know what the concept is beyond naming songs after each planet. Whatever. Just talking about the solar system is cool. It's some groovy stuff, and you can find it here. So let's take a minute to appreciate the runt of our planetary family, the first to go up in flames if the sun ever has a really nasty temper tantrum.Proyecto - A Mercurio

Preparing for liftoff
The plan is starting to come together. Hotels are getting booked, supplies procured, all that. B and I head out for our mad dash across Israel in less than 3 weeks. It's soon enough that loose ends are starting to make me nervous, but far enough away to still feel like a dream. I'm trying to heed the lessons of Chevy Chase and let spontaneity upset our best-laid plans. But I suspect I'll still find a way to drive around with someone's deceased grandmother in the rental car. That's how Songblague conducts its international busines. Anyway, here's a song to accompany thoughts of liftoff.Sun Ra - Rocket Number 9
Hey, you can never have enough of the Sun One! Two for Tuesday, babies. This is what the pianist is playing at the hotel bar on Venus.
