Out of the can

Ahh, reminded again of how the Can men are such masters of sounds to get oneself into some far innerspaces. In this case, light tremolo riffing and soft disco drum phrasings lead the way to a few minutes of ghostly magic. And here I thought Czukay had only one solo masterpiece. Good to know he had some more stashed away in that 'stache.

Weird smiles

Hey Can fans — ever wonder what Damo Suzuki would've sounded like fronting an '80s pop band? It kinda happened. Here's proof.

Peace until voice

That moment when you realize you're staring off into the distance and have been for some time, but you've become so definitively at peace that you don't want to remember the before or consider the after. That is until about 5:10, when those evil voices slowly intrude and start melting your face.

Woozy walking

Feeling the walking wooziness after a hectic week on this Friday. One of these days, I'll figure out a way to get summer vacations back into my life. Here's a tune for my state of mind, courtesy of a some light sidework from krautrock luminary Dieter Moebius. This tune brings to mind all my childhood dreams involving clowns, and magically makes them a lot less scary.

Big sunset

I'll admit it, various daily grinds have gotten on top of me and fatigue has set in. The time is ripe for a little 'blague vacation, so I'll be laying low for the next week. Here's a fitting sunset ride-off tune, consumed as I still am with Tangerine Dream and their many flavors of reflection. This one comes from a soundtrack to a movie about baby aliens stranded on Earth and discovered by the dude who one short year later would star in Revenge of the Nerds. Hang on to that mental image for a few days. See you back on 4/9.

Moving and not moving

More instrumental evocativeness. Conrad Schnitzler had his hand in a bunch of krautrock cookie jars, though was never a luminary in his own right. (In a just world, he'd be a tycoon of a pretzel company.)

I love this piece, but it seems mistitled. Far from static, it sounds like anticipatory preparations for some Big Event. Good for tightening ties and setting headbands. Or both, preferably.
